WHERE WE COME FROM
Back in 1920 Prof. Adolfo Ferrata founded a small journal dedicated to hematology called Haematologica. The first issue featured an article by the Nobel Prize Winner Camillo Golgi entitled “On the structure of red blood cells in man and other animals”. In 1974, after more than 50 years of continuous publishing, Haematologica was brought to Pavia where Prof. Ferrata had spent the last part of his career. At that time, the journal was mainly published in Italian with some abstracts in English.
In the late 1980s, Prof. Mario Cazzola assumed the scientific leadership of the journal. In spite of its small size and its local profile, the new Editor in Chief firmly believed it to have enormous potential and to reflect the valuable contribution of the local School of Hematology to medical research. It was his meeting with Michele Moscato – at that time a young librarian at the same University who had recognized the changes that were starting to take place in the world of international publishing – that set the course for what became to be considered by many as a publishing miracle. In fact, in just a few years, the scientific focus established by Prof. Cazzola, and the skills and expertise of Michele Moscato as Production Manager, transformed the Journal into a highly respected scientific publication, soon becoming one of the most important academic journals in its field. They rapidly improved Haematologica's impact factor, placing it among the top hematology journals in the world, a position it still holds today; an impressive achievement given the crowded world of scientific publishing.
The road that took Haematologica to the top of academic publishing is that still followed by Michele Moscato in his role as founder and CEO of PAGEPress. The experience gained in the past has been put to good use and has provided the basis on which the company guarantees its high production standards. A careful selection of scientific content, an appropriate work plan, an ability to meet even the tightest deadlines, and a professional support team all make sure that each journal offers a valuable, quality contribution to the company’s efforts to make the results of academic research available to the international community.
