Invasive fungal infections (IFI) are frequent in pediatric patients with haematological malignancies during induction therapy and relapse and with advanced stage or relapsing solid tumours. Although the incidence of IFI is low mortality rates are high. This review is designed to help orientate paediatric oncologists in appropriate choice of anti-fungal agents for children. Indications for prophylaxis, empirical and pre-emptive therapy are given. The efficacy and indications for use of anti-fungal agents to treat IFI in children are presented.
