The volume provides a valuable interpretation of the concept of sustainable human development, with reference to the 2030 Agenda approved by the United Nations Assembly in 2015, which indicated 17 “sustainable development goals”. The novelty consists in the adoption, as an interpretative criterion of the numerous factors underlying every economic development process, five dimensions: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership. The above classification allows to better interpret the meaning of a complex concept such as sustainable development, overcoming the traditional dichotomy, present in the literature, between Development and Growth. The volume is enriched by extensive empirical evidence that allows comparisons among countries and over time. The data refer not only to economic, but also to social, institutional, political and cultural aspects. The first two parts are dedicated to the theoretical analysis of alternative development models. The third part is dedicated to the analysis of policies and tools to promote a process of sustainable human development, characterized by institutions not only democratic but also inclusive, in which People and Planet occupy a central place.
