The recognition that the socio-economic systems evolve outside any pre-determined historical course and scarcely any contention of the traditional (Marxist) socialist paradigm still survives make Franco Archibugi’s last book resemble a fresh re-development of the concept of mixed socio-economic systems. This book also stimulates thoughts on how heterogeneous “for-profit”- and “not-for-profit”-oriented systems can co-exist and even cooperate, thus suggesting that Carlo Rosselli’s genuinely revolutionary concept of “liberal socialism” can become a spontaneously accomplished reality in the most advanced economies.
