After having criticized the widespread meaning of the symptom as a synonym of disease, a sign of the malfunctioning of a specific organ, and the search to abolish it in order to realize a restitutio ad integrum, a conception of the symptom as a sign of a discomfort of the subject in its unity and therefore a symbol of the system of meanings that constitute the subject itself is proposed. From the decoding of the symbol we can see both the blocking point of the system-subject and the greater complexity to which the subject tends.
