At the basis of the borderline condition there is an original trauma that has produced an experience of total impotence. This resulted in a lack of familiarity with the world and distrust of the accommodating, kind, loving and normal dimension of life. Hence the use of defensive instruments that are almost always attempts at violent re-appropriation. In turn, these behaviours lead to difficulties and divisions in the caregivers' team. For this reason a shared thinking is necessary and it is also necessary that someone, within the team, assumes a predominant role in the therapeutic relationship with the borderline.
