Ferenczi is presented as the initiator of the relational model in psychoanalysis. In England he exerted a largely indirect influence on Bowlby, while in the United States his influence was explicitly exercised through Clara Thompson on the interpersonal school. Fromm had previously been an admirer and defender of Ferenczi. In the comparison between Fromm and Bowlby, their convergence on the evolutionary paradigm is highlighted above all. These two authors also converge on two important Ferenczian themes: the child's primary relationship with his mother and the importance of traumatic events in real life. The quality of attachment can contribute to the social character.
